First Sikhs disembark in Gumba

My first Sikhs are now done. Finally had some time to paint and I am happy with them. :) I am now a big fan of the Foundry Eastern Skin triad. Although I gave them a reddish wash at the end to make the colour a bit more lively.

More Askari

These did not take as long as the last post might suggest, but I moved really slowly from tiny painting session to minuscule painting session. Still, finally another 4 are done and now only one or two remains for my first T&T group.

So here is the little group so far.

Photos are not that great, but I'd rather post something again than succumb to my I-can't-be-arsed-eness.

Moooooo!

I wouldn't usually make such a fuss over a cow, but I count this as an achievement. :) On the one hand, this cow kicked my arse back to painting... On the other is the very first horse-like animal I've ever painted and I do consider this to be a horse painting exercise. I am glad to say that it turned out quite well.

Last time I took some pictures for a friend, he told me, he thought they were darker than usual. At first I thought it was the outside light not playing along, but now I know it was one of my lamps. I've since bought new light bulbs and I must say that they are doing their work quite well.

I do apologise for the lack of activity of late... I'm in a slight hobby limbo, but I am crawling myself out of it... Slowly but steadily.

Schutztruppe arrives at the shores of the mysterious Gumbaland

Well, as I have been moaning about varnish problems, I thought I might as well show you what I wanted to varnish in the first place... Thankfully the varnishing worked. After losing some Saxons to it, I welcomed the change and painted some Schutztruppe for our local campaign of the fictional Gumbaland.

The miniatures are Copplestone except for the leader, which is Foundry and painted as a German para-military adventurer sort of type and is slightly inspired by the Germans in Shout at the Devil.

Scratchbuilt Zulu Hut for a Bday

A friend of mine had his birthday last Tuesday, so I decided to build him something as a present. After the Tactica he is burning for anything colonial and he is also currently painting miniatures for the Zulu wars like mad, so I guessed that his ca. 150 painted Zulus needed at least one hut.

The hut is built with half a plastic see through spherical ornament that I bought in an arts and crafts store. I covered that with pieces of towel and the ropes are made of simple sewing string doubled and twisted and then stuck into place by super glue. The cow hide is made of greenstuff and was added to stop the plastic ornament from showing. The "entrance" bit is also made of greenstuff. Let me know what you think of it.

Maasai

Finally some Maasai. I painted these a year ago for our Darkest Africa games, but I lost interest in them very quickly. I actually wanted to paint some colonial British, but was somehow talked into the Maasai. They are quite fine, but they are not on my list at the moment. Maybe one day. The photo was taken today.
