When I first started to get interested in historic wargaming some 5 years ago, I decided to collect a Greek/Spartan army. I managed to paint some hoplites before I had to give everything up to write my dissertation. Now, a year after liberating myself from this work, I painted some more. Last week we decided to try FOG out and for that we needed 10 Hoplites for the one side. I had six ready and finished, so I more or less speed painted another 4. They took a long evening and were great fun to paint. I have to be careful so I don't lose interest in my Naps. Well, here is a photo of the entire Spartan family till now. My interest is definitely awake again, so I am sure it will grow.
Don't ask why one of the bases is a double one. I don't remember. I think I was trying to create my first WAB multibase. The new ones are all bases on 20x20 bases, as I am not convinced by the FOG rules yet, so I want to remain flexible.
Here are the four new ones. There are inconsistencies in the skin colour between the old and new Spartans, but I prefer the new skintone a lot better. It looks all nice and sunburned. Spears are custom made.

Wow!Your Spartans look great!Your a very nice painter.
I prefer WAB over FOG,but they are different games.WAB is more character driven and FOG is more tactical. Both have elements of each, but push more in different directions.
I view WAB in "color" and FOG in "black and white".
More lovely Spartans please!
All these comments... You've been busy. :)
Thank you for your kind words. I am sure there will be more Spartans. The base will change slightly, as these have been a bit too wildly textured. It makes glueing the bushes a real chore.
I must admit, that I have never played more than one game of WAB. My buddies in our town all detest WAB with blazing hearts, so I doubt I'll get to try it any time soon.
FOG left me completely cold. I didn't like it at all. You lose half the game time looking through lists. Then, the lists give me the impression of being unbalanced. Germans winning over Romans... I doubt it. Finally, I didn't like how easily cavalry can be "tactically" held up by units just being in the vicinity. In the last game my side's Cataphracts were moving slower than an infantry skirmisher, just because a horse unit was close by, even though it was posing no threat.
Tomorrow I am giving FOG a last chance. After that, I'll have a look at Crusader and try to introduce it to our group. Two further people disliked FOG, so I might have a chance.
I like the bronze effect! Did you mix your own or is it straight out of a bottle?
Mark
Hey Mark,
the bronze is the Vallejo Model Color Bronze (998). After drying it was washed with diluted black.
Your profile says your the slowest painter , but boy your models show how much time you put into them they are just amazing. I've just started my first blog but my painting has a long way to go to reach your standard, maybe you might come over for a visit.
